Quantum Computation

Wed Oct 29, 2008, 4:26 PM
  • Mood: Eager
  • Listening to: Rush - Everyday Glory
  • Reading: Atlas Shrugged - Ayn Rand
  • Drinking: Coffee
Complex numbers
Matrices
Matrix algebra
Complex matrices (Hermitian, unitary)
Vector spaces
Linear algebra
Eigenvalues and eigenvectors

Product spaces (vector spaces)

The above is, apparently, a list of everything I need to know in order to be able to understand quantum computation. I understand complex numbers, matrices and matrix algebra and elementary vectors.

Shit is gonna be SO cash.

Rights and Responsibilities

Wed Oct 8, 2008, 5:00 AM
  • Mood: Tired
  • Listening to: A Metronome
  • Reading: Atlas Shrugged - Ayn Rand
  • Drinking: Coffee
A lot of people seem to be talking about tempering our rights with our responsibilities.

A brief argument as to why this is evil and immoral:

Responsibilities are subjective. They change with world-view, circumstance, etc.

Rights are objective. They are absolutes. In any given situation you will still have your rights; no matter what your responsibilities, your rights will remain. They are non-commutable.

So there, lefties.

On This Day

Thu Sep 11, 2008, 5:58 AM
  • Mood: Pride
  • Reading: Anthem - Ayn Rand
  • Eating: n o t h i n g
  • Drinking: Refueling.
This is the lesson: never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never—in nothing, great or small, large or petty—never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy."

"We shall go on to the end, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this Island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God's good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old."

Let us never forget these attacks, lest we forget how cruicially important the posession of civilisation is, and how damaging it is for those who do not have it.

Let us never forget the bravery of the American firefighters and civilians on that dark day seven years ago. Let us never forget the bravery of the American government in their willingness to fight for what is right, instead of what the collective erroneously demanded, and what popular trends dictated.

Let us never forget the principles America stands for. Let us never forget how dear is the individual. Let us never forget how dear freedom of speech, how dear criticism, how dear creativity, how dear life is and ought always to be to those of us with minds with which to reason and be civilised. Let us never forget our human rights. Let us never forget our liberty.

On this day, we are all Americans.

Digital and Traditional

Mon Aug 4, 2008, 2:59 PM
  • Mood: Nervous
  • Listening to: Sleep:Less - Icon Of Coil
  • Reading: The Annals of Imperial Rome - Tacitus
  • Eating: n o t h i n g

I seem to be leaning towards the traditional media all of a sudden. I've discovered I can use a dip-pen, which I bought along with water-resistant ink and photoblue pencil leads on sunday from the London Graphics Center. So far I'm getting on extremely well with all of them. I would recommend switching to photoblue leads asap for anyone who does a lot of sketchy underdrawing because, being so light blue, the paper still feels clean after you've scribbled all over it. This is awesome helpful. You can then pencil darkly over the blue, or just ink right away (I don't do this because I'm always a little paranoid about inks, but it would certainly be possible to ink right over the blue pencil).

Colouring Styles; The Fountainhead; TFA

Thu Jul 17, 2008, 3:18 PM
  • Mood: Pleased
  • Listening to: Second Bad Vilbel - Autechre
  • Reading: Nothing at the moment
  • Watching: Nothing, any more. G1, I suppose.
  • Playing: hard to get
  • Eating: n o t h i n g
  • Drinking: Refueling.
Which is a better colouring style for me to work at getting better at, the one in [link] or the one in [link] ?

I like both, and this won't necessarily affect which one I put more effort into, but since I like both I'm curious to know which is the better-liked.

In other news, I finished Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead on Tuesday. It's really fucking GOOD. The end blew me away, and has made me very optimistic.

I'm now going to choose whether to start reading Tacitus' Annals, David Deutsch's The Fabric Of Reality, or Ayaan Hirsi Ali's Infidel. I'll probably decide on one tomorrow.

Also, I watched the season finale of TFA, so NO MOAR TFA FOR ME. ;_; Made me sad when I realised. I will be writing moar fic as a result of it, though; it was an awesome finale. Needs moar Omega :<
