Digital and Traditional

I seem to be leaning towards the traditional media all of a sudden. I've discovered I can use a dip-pen, which I bought along with water-resistant ink and photoblue pencil leads on sunday from the London Graphics Center. So far I'm getting on extremely well with all of them. I would recommend switching to photoblue leads asap for anyone who does a lot of sketchy underdrawing because, being so light blue, the paper still feels clean after you've scribbled all over it. This is awesome helpful. You can then pencil darkly over the blue, or just ink right away (I don't do this because I'm always a little paranoid about inks, but it would certainly be possible to ink right over the blue pencil).

I've been considering getting photoblue leads for a while. I think I will next time I go to an art shop, even though I don't do all that much sketching. Thanks for the titbit. ^^

Heh; while you're moving more towards traditional art, I'm moving towards digital. (What with my tablet PC purchase an' all.)

Actually, that's not quite true: I'm interested in both. I recently got a kneaded putty rubber -- I haven't used it, but it looks like fun. I'm also planning to get a smudger for pencil portraits. Should be fun.

I haven't been able to find photoblue leads. Evar. D: Which is really bad because I DO sketch all over. It's horrible.

Also, did Lulie just say TITbit? ... I lol'd. >.>

It's funny because I can't do anything apart from traditional art really. XD

Hmm, I never liked putty rubbers. Why are they useful?

Also, I've moved away from smudged shading lately and starting hatching. Have you ever tried hatching? It's hella damn classy-looking, in my opinion. X3

tohjosakana uses them. if you look at some of her more sketchy things you can see the photoblue under the digital colours.

You can shape them into a point, so putty rubbers are useful for fine details (definitely not large areas, though).

Hatching looks too messy for most portraits, imo. Depends how it's done.
